Standing 6-foot-4 with good speed, former Maryland standout Kaden Prather brings size and UFL experience to Green Bay’s training camp as Brian Gutekunst shakes up the receiver room.
The Green Bay Packers are churning the back end of the roster as the first days of training camp roll on.
General manager Brian Gutekunst has added a wide receiver to compete in a room that seems to have an established pecking-order but quite a few question marks.
That wideout would be Kaden Prather, who was a seventh-round pick of the Buffalo Bills back in the 2025 NFL Draft. He was pick No. 240 overall out of Maryland.
So who is Prather?
He's a 23 year old wideout from Montgomery Village, Maryland. He played for the Terrapins in 2023 and 2024, but his college career started out with the West Virginia Mountaineers.
Prather was a 4-star wide receiver recruit in the class of 2021, ranked as the No. 38 wideout in the country and the No. 13 recruit from the state of Maryland.
He was projected to be " a multi-year starter at Top 20 program", according to 247Sports, and he committed to WVU head coach Neal Brown out of high school.
Prather played two seasons at West Virginia, catching 64 passes for 676 yards and three touchdowns. He then transferred home to Maryland for his junior and senior seasons, respectively.
At Maryland, he started 22 total games and he played in 25. He caught 98 passes for 1,290 yards and nine touchdowns in two seasons and in 2023 he was an honorable-mention All-Big Ten wide receiver.
The Bills selected Prather but waived him during his first training camp with an injury designation. He wound up on the injured reserve and soon thereafter was waived with an injury settlement.
Prather wound up playing in the United Football League for the Louisville Kings in 2026, where he caught nine passes for 148 yards with no touchdowns. Notably, he did average 16.4 yards per catch.
He's big and fast, so Prather is going to certainly be a player to watch in camp. He ran a 4.46 at the 2025 NFL Combine, and he's nearly 6-foot-4 and checks in at 204 pounds.
"Prather brings an intriguing blend of size, ball skills, and big-play ability to the NFL Draft conversation," read the scouting report on Prather in 2025. "His frame and catch radius make him an immediate red-zone threat, while his route-running versatility suggests potential as a chain-mover. Prather's performance against top-tier competition indicates he can contribute early in a rotational role."
The Packers currently have 10 wide receivers on the roster, but Brenden Rice, son of NFL Hall of Famer Jerry Rice, was put onto the non-football injury list with a hamstring injury on Wednesday.
