The Green Bay Packers could make a surprising move in NFL free agency.

The general consensus is that the Green Bay Packers will be letting wide receiver Romeo Doubs walk via free agency.

After all, the Packers drafted a pair of wide receivers in Matthew Golden and Savion William last April, and their receiver room was already crowded as it was.

Doubs has been battling for targets with Jayden Reed, Christian Watson and Dontayvion Wicks throughout his four-year tenure in Green Bay, and Golden (and perhaps even Williams) figure to see an uptick in usage next season.

But could the Packers actually make the surprising decision to keep Doubs?

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler has not entirely ruled out Doubs potentially re-signing in Green Bay, noting that "the door isn't closed" on a return.

"I'm expecting both sides to at least have some dialogue and see if a return makes sense," Fowler wrote.

Doubs hauled in 55 receptions for 724 yards and six touchdowns in 2025, averaging 13.2 yards per catch.

It should be noted that Reed missed most of the season due to a collarbone injury, so you do have to wonder how Doubs' numbers would have looked had Reed remained healthy.

Doubs was originally selected by the Packers in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft and immediately made an impact, logging 42 catches for 425 yards and three scores.

The next couple of years, the 25-year-old finished with over 600 yards receiving, but it was clear he wasn't entirely satisfied with his role within the offense.

Remember: midway through 2024, Doubs was suspended for missing consecutive practices, which stemmed from his dissatisfaction with targets.

Taking that into consideration, it's hard to envision a scenario in which Doubs would actually want to return to Green Bay unless the money was right, and even then, the University of Nevada product might still choose to explore other options.

There are plenty of other teams around the NFL who would be intrigued by a talented young receiver like Doubs, so there should be no shortage of interest in him once he hits the open market next month.

It might be best for both sides to just part ways.
