Green Bay Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst has hinted that an addition at a key position could be coming.
The Green Bay Packers have been pretty quiet this offseason, much to the chagrin of their fanbase.
Last year, the Packers rocked the NFL landscape when they acquired edge rusher Micah Parsons in a blockbuster trade just before the season began, so you would think Green Bay would be in win-now mode. Especially considering that the Packers parted with each of their next two first-round draft picks in the deal.
However, general manager Brian Gutekunst appears to be playing the compensatory pick game, so Green Bay has been largely inactive in free agency as a result.
But could more additions be coming?
Gutekunst hinted as a potential move in one particular area, stating that the Packers could be looking for a running back.
“I like our group,” Gutekunst said, via Matt Schneidman of The Athletic. “We’re certainly going to add competition to that room. But I like — whether it’s MarShawn [Lloyd] as we get him healthy and get him going, [and] Pierre Strong’s there. There’s guys we really like, but I’m sure there will be more competition to come.”

In fact, there was even speculation that the Packers could potentially cut Jacobs after the season, but Green Bay has decided to hold on to him.
The Packers lost Emanuel Wilson to free agency, so it would definitely serve them well to add another piece to their backfield, but it seems more likely that would come via the NFL Draft than Green Bay landing a veteran.
This year's running back class is not quite as deep as last year's, but the Packers should still be able to nab an intriguing player in the later rounds.
Green Bay is looking to rebound after a disappointing end to the 2025 campaign that saw the team lose out on the NFC North to the Chicago Bears, followed by a loss to the Bears in the Wild Card Round of the playoffs.
