Green Bay Packers Insider Compares Romeo Doubs to Super Bowl-Winning WR cover image

A Green Bay Packers insider draws a striking parallel between Romeo Doubs and a beloved Super Bowl-winning receiver, highlighting his valuable production despite draft position.

Wide receiver Romeo Doubs may not be representing the Green Bay Packers for much longer in his career, but his time "carrying the G" has, without a doubt, been good.

Take away the speedbump in 2024 when he was suspended for a game for missing a meeting because he was unhappy with his role in the offense. This is the NFL, and these wideouts, even the most humble of them, have egos. They want the football in their hands because they know what they can do with it, so let's give Doubs a pass because everything else from him has been great.

It's especially great when you remember that Doubs was a fourth-round pick in 2022 out of Nevada.

The Packers have gotten great production out of their pick No. 132 in that draft. Four seasons later, Doubs has caught 202 passes for 2,424 yards and 21 touchdowns.

Has he been a superstar? No, he hasn't. This, even though he has shown the ability to be able to take over a game from time-to-time.

Has he been as solid a WR3/WR2 as you can find in this league, though? The answer to that question is a resounding yes. In fact, as Doubs heads towards free agency, Packers insider Wes Hodkiewicz has likened Doubs to a fan-favorite role-playing wide receiver from years past: James Jones.

"He's sort of like this era's James Jones," Hodkiewicz recently wrote. "Doubs hasn't had more than 800 receiving yards in a single season, but was vital to the passing game the past four years. Doubs is going to have a healthy market for his services. He's a well-rounded and accountable wideout in a league starved for well-rounded and accountable wideouts."

Jones was a third-round pick for the Packers in 2007. He spent eight seasons in Green Bay from 2007 to 2015 -- let's forget about his 2014 season with the Oakland Raiders. In Green Bay, he notched 360 catches for 5,195 yards and 45 touchdowns. In one season, 2012, he put 784 yards and 14 touchdowns on the board.

Jones was also a key piece of the 2010-2011 team that won the Super Bowl. In that Super Bowl win over the Pittsburgh Steelers, he caught five catches for 50 yards.

Being compared to Jones, also known as "The Turtleneck," is an honor around Green Bay, and Doubs has earned it.

He's also likely to earn a nice contract in free agency from a team with more money to spend than the Packers, so...happy trails, partner.
