The Green Bay Packers have been connected to a quarterback trade after failing to land a signal-caller in the NFL Draft.

The backup quarterback slot was viewed as a need for the Green Bay Packers heading into the NFL Draft following the departure of Malik Willis, but they didn't actually use any of their draft choices on a signal-caller.

Given that the Packers didn't have a first-round pick and had to focus even more heavily on glaring team needs as a result, their decision not to select a quarterback was understandable, but it remains a need for the club.

Green Bay did sign Kyren Drones as an undrafted free agent, but it could still be in the market for a better player at the position.

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler thinks the Packers could potentially pursue a trade for a quarterback, naming Indianapolis Colts former first-round pick Anthony Richardson as a possibility for the squad.

"And, keep in mind, should Indy's Anthony Richardson Sr. be traded, he's looking for an extension of the McVay-Shanahan-LaFleur tree from which to learn," Fowler wrote. "Considering the success Matt LaFleur had with Malik Willis, Richardson will make sense if Green Bay has any interest."

The Colts' decision to re-sign Daniel Jones essentially sealed Richardson's fate, and with the University of Florida product having just one year left on his deal, he remains a prime trade candidate between now and Week 1.

Of course, Indianapolis can always keep him as a backup, especially considering that Jones is still recovering from a torn Achilles, but it seems more likely that the Colts would want to squeeze some value out of him while they still can.

At this point, it's hard to imagine that Richardson would cost anything more than a Day 3 pick, and with the Packers prepared to reap some compensatory draft capital in 2027, they may feel comfortable parting with a draft choice in exchange for the 23-year-old.

Richardson has been a massive disappointment in Indianapolis. His rookie campaign was marred by injuries, and during his second season in 2024, he completed just 47.7 percent of his passes over 11 starts.

The Miami native then lost his starting job to Jones heading into last year, and it didn't help Richardson's case that Jones played incredibly well before suffering the Achilles injury.

Should Green Bay make a play for Richardson, it would probably just be for one year, so we'll have to see if Brian Gutekunst would actually have any interest in trading a draft pick for a single season of Richardson.
