The Green Bay Packers have some starters entering free agency, including left tackle Rasheed Walker.
Walker is one of the top tackles on the market and could earn a big deal. In Fox Sports' free agency predictions article, they have Walker signing with the reigning AFC Champion New England Patriots.
New England's offensive line struggled at times, particularly in the Super Bowl, making Walker a potential fit for the Patriots.
For the Packers, it makes sense to move on from Walker, as he could earn a deal close to $20 million annually.
The 26-year-old has started at left tackle for Green Bay over the last three seasons and has been a solid starter. The former seventh-round pick has developed into a quality player, but the Packers need to be strategic with each contract.
They are paying Jordan Love and Micah Parsons a ton of money, and there are more important needs for Green Bay to address.
The Packers also have 2024 first-round pick Jordan Morgan, who could finally start at left tackle, where he was envisioned to be the future starter when he was drafted. Morgan has struggled at offensive guard but has shown promise at tackle.
However, Green Bay will hope that Walker gets a big payday. The Packers would benefit from Walker signing a major contract, as it would earn them a better compensatory pick.
Mark Hoffman-USA TODAY Network via Imagn ImagesBy allowing Walker to leave, Green Bay can also address the more pressing needs at cornerback and defensive line.
They could use another edge rusher opposite Parsons or a defensive tackle next to Devonte Wyatt. At cornerback, Javon Bullard thrives in the nickel, but Keisean Nixon and Carrington Valentine were inconsistent on the outside.
The Packers can create more cap space by cutting Rashan Gary and Elgton Jenkins, two players who failed to live up to their contracts and previous high-level play.
Green Bay is in its Super Bowl window with Love and Parsons, and every decision Brian Gutekunst and the front office make will be pivotal to their chances of winning it all. Letting Walker go is a worthwhile sacrifice to allow Morgan to start and address the flaws of the roster.
