Green Bay Packers QB Malik Willis Earns Bold Free Agency Prediction cover image

Green Bay Packers quarterback Malik Willis has received a major free agency prediction.

Green Bay Packers quarterback Malik Willis enters free agency after two successful seasons as a backup. He is expected to have a major market and go to a team where he can start.

In Fox Sports' free agency predictions article, they have Willis landing with the Miami Dolphins on a similar deal to what Justin Fields signed last offseason: two years, $40 million.

This would make a lot of sense as the Dolphins are looking to move on from quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. Miami also brought in Green Bay's defensive coordinator, Jeff Hafley, and Vice President of Player Personnel, Jon-Eric Sullivan, as their head coach and general manager.

Willis has been a highly productive backup over the past two seasons. In 2024, he started in two games, winning both, while also filling in for the fourth quarter of a game when Jordan Love went down, and led Green Bay to another victory.

In that season, Willis completed 40 of 54 passes (74.1 percent) for 550 yards, three touchdowns, and zero interceptions. He also rushed for 138 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries.

Willis followed with another productive season as a backup in 2025, completing 30 of 35 passes (85.7 percent) for 422 yards, three touchdowns, and zero interceptions. He also rushed for 123 yards and two touchdowns on 22 attempts.

Willis is a dual-threat quarterback with the talent to be a quality starter. While Green Bay would love to have him return as Jordan Love's backup, he has earned the opportunity to start elsewhere.

The Packers will look to continue to build their offense around Love. Love had a great 2025 season, completing 66.3 percent of his passes for 3,381 yards, 23 touchdowns, and six interceptions.

Green Bay has its franchise quarterback in place, but will now be looking for a new backup.

The Packers should target players with a similar skillset to Willis: quarterbacks who can run the ball and have passing upside.

While losing Willis is disappointing, he will have the chance to start elsewhere, and Green Bay should be thankful for his two years of quality production.
