The Green Bay Packers have revealed some significant news on Micah Parsons.
When the Green Bay Packers acquired Micah Parsons in a blockbuster trade with the Dallas Cowboys shortly before the season, they knew that Parsons was dealing with a back sprain that would require some extra attention.
Parsons had been undergoing physical therapy in Dallas, and there was even speculation that he might have to get an injection to play in the Packers' season opener against the Detroit Lions. He only played in 57 percent of Green Bay's defensive snaps over the first two weeks of the year, which Parsons has admitted has been frustrating.
But it's looking like the Packers may be taking the reins off of the superstar pass rusher.
Green Bay has officially removed Parsons from the injury report heading into its Week 3 matchup with the Cleveland Browns, an indication that the four-time Pro Bowler may be preparing to assume more of a full-time role this Sunday.
Green Bay Packers linebacker Micah Parsons. Now, that does not necessarily mean the Packers are going to completely turn Parsons loose. Especially in a September matchup against one of the NFL's worst teams. But after playing in 44.8 percent of Green Bay's defensive snaps in Week 1, Parsons saw that number increase to 68.1 percent last Sunday. Could he now approach 80 percent, where he typically was throughout his tenure in Dallas?
Parsons has still been productive even while not being an essential every-down player over his first couple of games in the tundra. The 26-year-old has logged three tackles, 1.5 sacks and four quarterback hits thus far and has certainly played a significant role in the Packers getting off to a 2-0 start.
While Jordan Love and the offense have played well, Green Bay's first two weeks have largely been defined by its dominant defense, which has undoubtedly received a major boost since the acquisition of Parsons.
The Packers already had a strong defensive unit prior to Parsons' arrival, but now, a serious argument can be made that Green Bay possesses the best defense in football.
We'll see if the Packers can avoid a potential trap game against the Browns this weekend, especially with Parsons' former Cowboys squad on tap for Week 4.
