After reaching the playoffs during the 2025-26 NFL season, the Green Bay Packers will now look to retool their entire roster throughout the offseason.
General manager Brian Gutekunst has already made his first significant move before the free agency period opens by trading for linebacker Zaire Franklin in exchange for defensive tackle Colby Wooden. In addition to the most recent move, Green Bay will be without its first-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft due to the massive trade for star EDGE rusher Micah Parsons at the beginning of last season.
Luckily for Gutekunst and the rest of the front office, there is a clear way to land additional picks for the upcoming draft by trading away some of the depth within the current roster. One name that fits this criteria, who has also been floated around in trade talks, is wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks as he enters the final season of his rookie contract.
Green Bay Packers' wide receiver Dontayvion Wick (Scott Galvin-Imagn Images)Wicks, a fifth-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, has had an interesting career path with the Packers over the last three seasons. As a rookie, the former Virginia Cavalier put his name on the map after recording 581 receiving yards and four touchdowns on 39 catches.
However, with the incredible amount of depth within the Packers’ wide receiver room, Wicks was limited in his role with the team over the past two seasons. In 2024, the underrated pass catcher finished with 415 receiving yards and five touchdowns on 39 receptions, which was a steep decline in production from his rookie season.
To make matters worse, Wicks ended his most recent season with a career-low 332 receiving yards and two touchdowns on 30 catches in 14 games. Now, with one year left on his rookie contract, the Packers must decide whether or not Wicks fits the long-term picture with the franchise this offseason.
Unfortunately for the Packers, star wideout Romeo Doubs will likely sign elsewhere this offseason. Doubs played a key role on offense over the past few seasons, and without his presence in 2026, Wicks would have a better chance of stepping into a much larger role on offense if he is not traded.
Still, outside of Wicks and Doubs, Green Bay’s wide receiver corps features plenty of talented playmakers, including 2022 second-round pick Christian Watson and 2025 first-round pick Matthew Golden. In addition to the star receivers, the Packers will have a healthy Jaylen Reed, who missed most of the 2025 season due to an injury.
