Sidelined by a torn ACL, Micah Parsons is mentoring the Green Bay Packers' youth, transforming his grueling recovery into a masterclass in leadership to fortify the defensive front.

It's one of the unfortunate realities for the Green Bay Packers as they head into the 2026 season.

All-world pass-rusher Micah Parsons, who they traded a king's ransom for just before the start of the 2025 season (not to mention the four year, $186 million contract), is going to miss significant time in 2026.

Time off was always expected, of course. He tore his ACL on Dec. 14 against the Denver Broncos in a Week 15 game. Surgery took place on Dec. 29, a few weeks later, and that included work on a torn meniscus

The most optimistic of cases for 2026 was that Parsons would hit the PUP list and miss at least the first four games of the season.

More realistically was a return for mid-October (the season starts on Sept. 13), but Parsons revealed in June that neither he nor the Packers want to rush his return.

"The goal for me is to complete the season -- not no relapse -- and playoffs and pushing towards a championship," Parsons said in early June. "The goal isn't for me to go out there and rehurt myself trying to force myself to get back the first few games. The goal has always been [to be available for the] playoffs, and I think we're all on the same page."

With all that in mind, six to eight games missed is the most likely scenario for Parsons, which is terrible news for the Packers because when he's on the field, he's arguably the best pass-rusher in the NFL not named Myles Garrett.

The Packers have a massive void to fill the edges of their defense and they don't have a ton of proven options to fill that void with.

With that said, it's not like Parsons won't be with the team at the start of the 2026 season.

Heck, he's spent most of his offseason training with guys like Barryn Sorrell and Collin Oliver, and recent video from HIS BACKYARD shows Parsons training and drilling with multiple members of Green Bay's young defensive line.

It's an incredible look for Parsons, who is proving to be one heck of a leader for the Packers.

Nobody would blame Parsons had he decided to shrink away from the spotlight and even from the team and focus on his recovery. He's been open about this injury being very hard on him emotionally, and plenty of superstars in the past have gone out on their own to "get right" during injury rehab.

It says so much about Parsons that he's decided to pour into his teammates during his time, though.

He's helping young players like Sorrell and Oliver get better. That's not to mention defensive tackle Chris McClellan, who the Packers are very high on coming out of Missouri.

The truth of the matter is that Parsons may not be able to help the Packers on the field for half of the 2026 season, but he can absolutely be a leader and help this team off of it.

Even with this injury, he's proven to be worth every penny the Packers have paid him so far. The 12.5 sacks last season were great, but leadership this offseason is just as valuable for Green Bay.
