Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love went down with a concussion against the Chicago Bears. He was hit in the head by Bears defensive lineman Austin Booker.
Prior to his exit, Love had completed 8 of 13 passes for 77 yards. He had also rushed for seven yards on two carries.
Love had been playing great football this season, as he entered the game having completed 66.4 percent of his passes for 3,304 yards, 23 touchdowns, and six interceptions.
With Love out, Malik Willis took over and will remain their quarterback for the rest of the game. Willis has completed 1 of 3 passes for six yards. He added four rushes for 18 yards on the ground.
Willis filled in for a drive against the New York Giants earlier this season and completed both of his passes for 13 yards and a touchdown. He rushed for 16 yards on one rushing attempt.
In the 2024 season, Willis started two games for the Packers when Love was out and won both of those games. He completed 40 of 54 passes (74.1 percent) for 550 yards, three touchdowns, and zero interceptions. Willis also rushed for 138 yards and a touchdown on 20 attempts.
With Love out, the Packers will likely change up their playcalling. Head coach Matt LaFleur can lean on Willis' rushing ability and call some read option and zone reads. Green Bay will likely lean on the run game more in general, with Josh Jacobs, Emanuel Wilson, and Chris Brooks.
In the first half, Jacobs rushed for 27 yards on nine attempts, while Wilson added 38 yards on six carries, and Brooks had one carry for four yards.
The Packers will also need their defense to continue to play at a high level. Green Bay has held the Bears to just a field goal thus far, as they hold a 6-3 lead.
Willis has been productive as the Packers' backup over the past two seasons, and he is now thrown into the most important game of the season. They will need the backup quarterback to rise to the occasion once more.
