Packers head coach Matt LaFleur discussed Trevon Diggs' role for the postseason.

The Green Bay Packers concluded the regular season with a loss to the Minnesota Vikings in Week 18. Green Bay rested most of the starters, with one exception being newly acquired cornerback Trevon Diggs.

Diggs was released by the Dallas Cowboys after their Week 17 game, and the Packers claimed him off waivers. The former All-Pro corner made his Packers debut against Minnesota and played at a high level.

After the game, head coach Matt LaFleur said he won't rule out Diggs as a starting cornerback for the Packers and believes he absolutely can help them in the playoffs.

That would be an interesting move for Green Bay as they head to Chicago to play the Bears in the Wild Card Round. The Packers' starting cornerbacks on the outside have been Carrington Valentine and Keisean Nixon, who have both been inconsistent.

While Diggs did not have a productive season in Dallas, he has shown in previous years that he can be one of the best cornerbacks in the league. In the 2021 season, when he was an All-Pro, Diggs led the league with 11 interceptions.

The Packers could use more consistent play on the outside, and Diggs could thrive as a starter. He plays at his best when he's a ball hawk, and with Green Bay having talented safeties behind him in Xavier McKinney and Evan Williams.

The Packers defense has struggled to create turnovers this season, ranking fifth-fewest in interceptions forced (seven) and second-fewest in fumbles forced (eight).

Diggs could help their defense create turnovers and at least be a solid outside corner for the Packers in the playoffs.

Green Bay is heading into its third matchup of the season against the rival Bears. In the first game, the Packers beat the Bears, 28-21, but fell in the rematch, with a complete collapse, losing 22-16.

The rubber match comes in the playoffs. It's the biggest rivalry in NFL history, and the Packers will need contributions from everyone, including Diggs, to overcome all of their injuries and take down the Bears and advance to the Divisional Round of the playoffs.
