NFL Analyst Names Green Bay Packers As Best Fit For First Round QB

The Green Bay Packers are in need of acquiring a new backup quarterback as Malik Willis will leave in free agency.

Willis spent the past two seasons as the Packers' quarterback and thrived in that role so much that he will leave in free agency to a team where he can start.

With Green Bay in search of a new backup quarterback, NFL analyst David Carr named them as the best fit for Anthony Richardson.

Richardson was the fourth overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, but did not pan out with the Indianapolis Colts. He is now on the trade market and could be an option for the Packers.

In 17 games in his three-year career, Richardson has completed 50.6 percent of his passes for 2,400 yards, 11 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions. He has also rushed for 634 yards and touchdowns on 115 attempts.

Similar to Willis, Richardson has a ton of talent due to his dual-threat ability and his incredible arm strength. However, Richardson has struggled to stay healthy and with his passing accuracy.

However, Matt LaFleur and the Packers have shown they can help develop pass accuracy, as evidenced by their success with Willis.

In Willis' 11 games and three starts with the Tennessee Titans, he completed 53 percent of his passes for 350 yards, three touchdowns, and 11 interceptions.

Fast forward to his time in Green Bay, where he improved drastically, completing 78.7 percent of his passes across two seasons for 972 yards, six touchdowns, and no interceptions.

Working under a great offensive mind like LaFleur and getting to sit behind a talented quarterback in Jordan Love could be just what Richardson needs to revive his career.

It would be a low-pressure situation, as he wouldn't start unless Love went down with an injury. Love is coming off a career year in 2025, where he completed 66.3 percent of his passes for 3,381 yards, 23 touchdowns, and six interceptions.

The Packers have a lot of moves to make this offseason as they look to round out the roster to compete for a Super Bowl, but adding a talented backup in Richardson would be good assurance in case Love misses any time.
