A trade idea sending Alex Highsmith from the Pittsburgh Steelers to the Green Bay Packers was proposed by NFL analyst Moe Moton of Bleacher Report.
Moton believes the Packers should trade a Day 2 2027 draft pick to the Steelers for Highsmith.
"Green Bay can replenish its depleted outside linebacker group with a move for Highsmith, who may want a new contract," Moton wrote. "The Steelers edge-rusher doesn't have any guaranteed money in the final two years of his deal. With $23.4 million in cap space, the Packers can acquire Highsmith, rework his contract and fill a glaring need on the edge."
For the Steelers last season, Highsmith put up 9.5 sacks, 36 solo tackles, 15 tackles for loss and 19 QB hits. Since Micah Parsons will miss the start of next season, the Packers could use someone like Highsmith to anchor the defense.
Highsmith has 45 sacks, 212 solo tackles, 64 tackles for loss and 91 QB hits in the NFL. He's spent his entire career with the Steelers.
The Packers' defense will likely struggle to begin next season since Parsons will be out. It will be fascinating to see if Green Bay's front office makes a trade to bolster the defense.
Parsons had a stellar first season with the Packers. He finished with 12.5 sacks, 19 solo tackles, 12 tackles for loss and 27 QB hits in 14 games.
One of the best players in the league, Parsons made the Pro Bowl last season despite tearing his ACL against the Denver Broncos. The Penn State product has made the Pro Bowl every season of his NFL career with the Dallas Cowboys and Packers.
Parsons also underwent a meniscus procedure. The stud defender got hurt in Week 15 on December 14, but surgery took place on December 29. A nine-month recovery timeline means we should not expect to see Parsons on the field before September 29.
