A blockbuster NFL trade idea sending Joey Porter Jr. from the Pittsburgh Steelers to the Green Bay Packers was created by Alex Kay of Bleacher Report.
Kay created the following trade idea between the Steelers and Packers in the wake of Porter Jr. seeking a contract extension:

Last week, NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported that Porter Jr. has been seen as a "potential trade target" for teams as the star enters the final year of his rookie deal and has yet to receive a contract extension from the Steelers.
On Monday (8/24), Mike McCarthy said the Steelers are at an "impasse" with Porter Jr., as the cornerback remains sidelined on the physically unable to perform list.
Porter Jr. was placed on the PUP list after aggravating a back injury during the team's mobility workout on the first day of training camp. He last spoke with the media at minicamp in June and said he believed he had been a "lead" corner in the NFL since arriving in Pittsburgh and should be compensated as such.
"Green Bay doesn't possess a first-rounder in the 2027 draft due to their blockbuster trade for Micah Parsons last year, but is sitting on a second-round selection and a pair of third-rounders," Kay wrote. "There's enough capital here to get a deal done for Porter, who could be a long-term building block in Titletown by signing a long-term deal shortly after arriving."
In 14 games for the Steelers last season, Porter Jr. had one interception, 14 passes defended, one sack and 35 solo tackles.
Porter Jr. has a base salary of $3,924,000 and a cap hit of $4,922,790 this season. If he doesn't get extended, the talented defender will hit free agency next season.
Adding Porter Jr. to a defense with Parsons on it would make the Packers terrifying. Porter Jr. has three interceptions and 31 passes defended in 47 games with the Steelers. He's very difficult to complete a pass against.
Green Bay went 0-4 to finish the 2025 season and lost to the Chicago Bears in the wild-card round of the playoffs despite having a 21-6 lead. The Packers didn't win a game after Parsons tore his ACL in Week 15 against the Denver Broncos.
It's currently unknown when Parsons will be cleared to play. He underwent ACL surgery and a meniscus procedure. Surgery took place on December 29. A nine-month recovery timeline means we should not expect to see Parsons on the field before September 29.
With that said, the Packers should be aggressive for the second year in a row and trade for Porter Jr., who can lock down the secondary until Parsons is back.
The Packers open the 2026 season against the Minnesota Vikings.
