The Green Bay Packers suffered a ton of injuries in their loss to the Denver Broncos in Week 15. However, they received good news about wide receiver Christian Watson, who returned to practice on Wednesday.
“He’s improving. We’ll just see how he’s feeling out there," head coach Matt LaFleur said about Watson.
It would be a major boost for Watson to be on the field for the Packers offense, as it is a crucial game against the Chicago Bears.
"We're at the point of the season where you've got to fight through some stuff, so should be good," Watson said after practice.
Watson has been highly impactful since coming back from the torn ACL he suffered in Week 18 of the 2024 season. He has hauled in 28 receptions for 481 yards and five touchdowns.
He has been a top target for Jordan Love and a major contributor to the passing attack, getting better in the second half of the season.
Love has put together an efficient campaign, completing 66.4 percent of his passes for 3,304 yards, 23 touchdowns, and six interceptions.
The 27-year-old has emerged as one of the best quarterbacks in the league this season, and Watson has been his go-to target on the outside.
In Week 14, Love played well against the Bears, completing 17 of 25 passes for 234 yards, three touchdowns, and an interception. Watson led the team in receiving with four receptions for 89 yards and two touchdowns.
If he can play on Saturday, Green Bay can continue to use him as a downfield threat. His size and speed make him a difficult matchup for opposing defenses to gameplan against.
If Watson is unable to go, LaFleur will need to establish the run game and attack more in short and medium passing situations. However, that could be difficult, as well as running back Josh Jacobs, who is dealing with an injury.
There is a lot riding on this Packers-Bears rematch, as the winner will be in first place in the NFC North. If Watson is able to play through his injury, it would significantly help the offense.
