The Green Bay Packers decided to retain head coach Matt LaFleur, but that decision didn't start off well.

For much of the Green Bay Packers' Week 1 matchup against the NFC North rival Minnesota Vikings, it looked like they were headed for a convincing road win.

Late in the third quarter, the Packers took a 22-10 lead over the Vikings. Unfortunately, they never scored another point throughout the rest of the game.

When all was said and done, Green Bay was outscored by Minnesota to the tune of 22-0 in the fourth quarter. Nothing went right for the Packers in the fourth quarter and LaFleur has been facing a ton of backlash following the loss.

One critical decision came with 13:17 remaining in the fourth quarter. Rookie kicker Trey Smack connected on a 40-yard field goal that would have given Green Bay a 25-17 lead. However, the Vikings were called for a defensive offside that LaFleur accepted, setting up a crucial 4th-and-1 situation.

LaFleur opted to have Jordan Love run a quarterback sneak. That attempt was denied and the Packers turned the football over on downs.

Just like the team collapsed on multiple occasions last season, including their Wild Card matchup against the Chicago Bears that ended their season, LaFleur and company picked up where they left off. Green Bay suffered yet another frustrating collapse.

Following the game, LaFleur commented on the team's inability to close out games under his leadership.

“It’s gonna be a topic of conversation for all you guys until we do it," LaFleur said.

After yet another collapse, plenty of Packers analysts and reporters didn't hold back on the team's latest loss.

247 Sports’ Eli Berkovits took to X to share his opinion.

"We are watching yet another classic Matt LaFleur choke job. Hilarious that anyone thought things would magically change 8 years in.”

Tyler Dunne of GoLongTD.com also chimed in on the loss.

“There are implosions in pro football. Then, apparently, there’s the Matt LaFleur experience. This Packers season has picked up right where it left off.”

There was plenty of other fan and media backlash towards LaFleur. Ed Policy's decision to stick with LaFleur is currently aging like milk. Nothing seems to have changed from last season.

Granted, the season is still young. Green Bay is only one week in with plenty of time to turn things around.

That being said, it's hard not to get incredibly frustrated after yet another loss that shouldn't have happened. LaFleur has constantly squandered opportunities to win big games. Week 1 was just another tally on that track record.
