Green Bay Packers president Ed Policy gave an honest take on head coach Matt LaFleur's contract extension.

The Green Bay Packers inked head coach Matt LaFleur to a multi-year extension this offseason. This was surprising to some fans after the Packers' collapse in the Wild Card Round against the Chicago Bears.

However, President Ed Policy disagreed, signing LaFleur to a long-term extension as Green Bay's head coach.

"Frankly, the fact I was being asked is firing him even an option, I was a little bit shocked by that," Policy said.

Policy discussed how LaFleur got the most out of Aaron Rodgers, then developed Jordan Love into a high-quality starter. He also helped Malik Willis become an elite backup, leading to his contract with the Miami Dolphins to become their starting quarterback.

Policy also commented on the support LaFleur has received from players in the locker room.

Since LaFleur took over as the Packers' head coach, he has a record of 76-40-1 in the regular season and 3-6 in the postseason.

Green Bay has consistently made the playoffs but has yet to reach the Super Bowl under LaFleur.

They have a talented roster led by Love and superstar pass rusher Micah Parsons that is capable of winning a Super Bowl. The Packers looked like true contenders before Parsons went down with a torn ACL, adding to the injuries of other key players like Tucker Kraft, Zach Tom, and Devonte Wyatt.

If Green Bay is healthy in the 2026 season with the additions they've made with Javon Hargrave, Zaire Franklin, and others, they should be a contender.

LaFleur has proven to be a good coach in the NFL, as he has a bright offensive mind. However, there are times when the offense gets conservative, and it has hurt the team.

The Packers were at their best in the 2025 season when LaFleur was aggressive as a playcaller.

Love had his best year as a starter in 2025, completing 66.3 percent of his passes for 3,381 yards, 23 touchdowns, and six interceptions.

LaFleur has the belief of the organization behind him, and the multi-year extension proves that. He will now look to bring the Lombardi trophy back to Green Bay for the first time since 2010.
