Green Bay Packers QB Jordan Love is confident RB MarShawn Lloyd will step up while Josh Jacobs is out.
Green Bay Packers star RB Josh Jacobs is on the commissioner-exempt list, so he probably won't play in Week 1 against the Minnesota Vikings.
That means MarShawn Lloyd will get the start and QB Jordan Love is confident Lloyd will step up while Jacobs is out.
“That’s what they brought you here to do is to go be the player that everybody knows you can be,” Love said, via Spectrum News. "And for him, it’s just obviously he hasn’t had the game reps that people might have seen. But he’s been working. He’s been watching Josh. He’s been in practice doing great things. So it’s just for him, just consistency, finding the consistency, staying healthy, going out there and making plays.”
Lloyd seems excited about his new role with the Packers, who lost to the Chicago Bears in the wild-card round of the 2025 playoffs.
"I'm ready to play as much as they want me to play," Lloyd said. "I'm excited. It's a dream come true playing for the Packers, so however much carries I get, however much they put me in the game, I'm ready to go."
This is great news for Green Bay, as Lloyd is fully healthy heading into the 2026 season. He has a ton of talent, but he has only appeared in one game in his first two seasons in the league.
In that one game in the 2024 season, Lloyd rushed for 15 yards on six carries, along with one reception for three yards.
With a full season of Lloyd, the Packers will look to get the version of him that he played at during his time at USC. In the 2023 season at USC, he rushed for 820 yards and nine touchdowns on 116 carries while catching 13 passes for 252 yards.
Not only does Lloyd have to play well while Jacobs is out, but Love also has to produce like a superstar. The QB signed a four-year, $220 million contract with Green Bay in 2024. He needs to put up MVP numbers to live up to that monster contract.
Love enters this season with 11,535 passing yards and 83 passing touchdowns. He's 27-20-1 as a starter.
For the Packers last season, Love put up 3,381 passing yards and 23 passing touchdowns while completing 66.3% of his passes.
