Last season, the cornerback position was a major problem for the Green Bay Packers, and it was largely because general manager Brian Gutekunst did not properly address the issue during the offseason.
Yes, the Packers signed Nate Hobbs in free agency last spring, but it clearly wasn't enough, as Green Bay's secondary struggled and Hobbs was ultimately released last week after playing in just 11 games.
The same problems persist this offseason. The Packers added Benjamin St-Juste, but he is really nothing more than a depth addition. Ergo, Green Bay really has to add a cornerback in the NFL Draft.
Matt Schneidman of The Athletic just published a mock draft for the Packers, and he has them tending to the secondary in the fourth round, selecting Texas Longhorns cornerback Malik Muhammad.
"Going back to the earlier point of Gutekunst portioning out his roster so he can draft the best player available, doing so also allows him to draft for the future instead of panicking in the present," Schneidman wrote. "This would be a pick with the future in mind, though Muhammad could also provide immediate depth in a thin cornerback room."

Muhammad is typically being viewed as a Day 2 pick, so being able to nab him in Round 4 would comprise a sure-fire steal.
The 21-year-old arrived at Texas in 2023 and immediately received significant playing time during his freshman campaign, and he proceeded to establish himself as a critical part of the Longhorns' defensive backfield moving forward.
Muhammad posted a 4.42 in the 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine and possesses decent size at six foot. He could absolutely represent an upgrade over Carrington Valentine, and potentially even Keisean Nixon.
The fact that Nixon and Valentine are currently the Packers' top two corners is definitely concerning, which makes Gutekunst's refusal to rectify the position that much more of a glaring gaffe.
But bringing Muhammad into the fold would provide Green Bay with just a bit more flexibility at the position.
