The Green Bay Packers have made their decision about Josh Jacobs' future with the team.

The Green Bay Packers are set to begin the NFL offseason with the crushing Wild Card loss to the Chicago Bears still leaving a bad taste in their mouths.

With that being said, the Packers have some work to do this offseason. They need to bring in some help, especially in the defensive secondary and potentially on the offensive line. Green Bay also has plenty of decisions to make regarding players already on the roster.

Keeping that in mind, the future of running back Josh Jacobs has been called into question.

If the Packers choose to make some moves to save money, Jacobs could be one of the best options. However, it doesn't sound like the veteran running back will end up being a cap casualty this offseason.

As shared by ESPN insider Rob Demovsky, general manager Brian Gutekunst has made it very clear that Jacobs will be back for the 2026 season.

"Absolutely," Gutekunst said. “He’s a very important cog in what we’re trying to do here.”

Moving on from Jacobs would have been a surprise. He has been a star for Green Bay over the last two years. Last season, he dealt with some nagging injury issues that slowed him down, but he was able to make a strong impact when he was on the field.

Throughout the course of the 2025 season, Jacobs played in 15 regular season games. He carried the football 234 times for 929 yards and 13 touchdowns, averaging four yards per carry. Jacobs also caught 36 passes for 282 yards and another touchdown.

At 28 years old, Jacobs almost certainly still has some good years left in his career. Keeping him around for the 2026 season makes total sense for the Packers.

It's going to be very interesting to see how Gutekunst shifts things around in order to make the moves Green Bay needs to compete for a Super Bowl. For now, Jacobs seems to be safe, although things can always change in the NFL.

Expect to hear plenty of rumors about the Packers as free agency approaches. If the team is serious about going all-in for a championship, they will need to get aggressive this year.
