The Green Bay Packers have been named a potential trade suitor for Arizona Cardinals defender Josh Sweat.
NFL analyst Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report has named the Green Bay Packers a potential trade suitor for Arizona Cardinals defender Josh Sweat.
Many people who cover the NFL believe the Packers need another proven edge rusher in Jonathan Gannon's defense.
Before joining the Packers as DC, Gannon was the Cardinals' head coach from 2023 to 2025.
For Arizona last season, Sweat put up 12 sacks, 20 solo tackles, 13 tackles for loss and 17 QB hits in 17 games. He's a talented player who projects to be a great fit in Green Bay since no one knows when superstar Micah Parsons will return from his ACL injury.
"Teams may have to overpay a bit to land Sweat, but those seeking pass-rush help should inquire," Knox wrote. "Potential Suitors: Chicago Bears, Green Bay Packers."
Sweat has played for the Philadelphia Eagles and Cardinals. He has 55 sacks in the NFL.
Even though the Cardinals have stated that Sweat won't be traded, we heard the same thing about Myles Garrett with the Cleveland Browns and the superstar was traded to the Los Angeles Rams.
The Packers need to be aggressive and do whatever it takes to get Sweat because he would be a great No. 2 option behind Parsons once Parsons returns from his ACL injury.
Parsons had a stellar first season with the Packers. He finished with 12.5 sacks, 19 solo tackles, 12 tackles for loss and 27 QB hits in 14 games.
Once Parsons is cleared by doctors to play next season, the Packers' defense will be elite again. Until then, other guys will have to step up.
"They got a lot of talent," Gannon said. "Matt and Gutey, the whole personnel side, has done a really good job. They've done a really good job in my opinion of acquiring talent. Good players. It's a good mix of some younger players, we got some vets that are some really good players. That sweet spot.
"McKinney, I think about, who's been playing forever because he's such a high-performing vet, but he's still pretty young. And then you got some guys that are younger and in their first contract that have played really good football. We should have a chance."
