The Green Bay Packers have been named as a fit for a talented pass rusher.
The Green Bay Packers are in their Super Bowl window after making a splash to acquire Micah Parsons before the 2025 season.
Parsons was incredible for Green Bay, finishing with 41 total tackles, 12 tackles for loss, 12.5 sacks, and two forced fumbles. He was named an All-Pro despite only appearing in 14 games.
However, many injuries, including Parsons' torn ACL, derailed the end of the season and their Super Bowl hopes, as they fell to the Chicago Bears in the Wild Card Round.
The expectations are the same for Green Bay in 2026, which means they could be aggressive in making another move.
In Bleacher Report's article, the Packers were named as one of the seven teams that should trade for Arizona Cardinals edge rusher Josh Sweat if he becomes available.
If Green Bay were to acquire Sweat, he would instantly be an upgrade as the pass rusher opposite Parsons. Sweat has three years remaining on a four-year $76.4 million deal.
Jayne Kamin-Oncea-Imagn ImagesIn the 2025 season, Sweat finished with 30 total tackles, 13 tackles for loss, 12 sacks, four forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery. Sweat posted these numbers while playing under Jonathan Gannon with the Cardinals.
Gannon is now the defensive coordinator for the Packers, and a reunion with Sweat would make a ton of sense. He would fit the scheme and create a dynamic pass rush duo while also being the leader of the pass rush while Parsons is out for the start of the season.
They moved on from a couple of pass rushers earlier in the offseason, trading Rashan Gary to the Dallas Cowboys and allowing Kingsley Enagbare to leave in free agency for the New York Jets.
As currently constructed, Green Bay is relying on Lukas Van Ness, Barryn Sorrell, Collin Oliver, and rookie Dani Dennis-Sutton to step up into bigger roles and produce off the edge.
While the Packers have a ton of money tied to their current roster and some key extensions coming in the near future, they need to win now, and a trade for Sweat would help Gannon establish their defense as one of the top units in the NFL.
