The Green Bay Packers entered 2025 boasting one of the most talented front sevens in all of football, but everyone saw the weakness in their secondary right from the jump.
The Packers failed to address the cornerback position last offseason, and it ended up costing them dearly. And now here we are in March 2026, and Green Bay still has not rectified the issue. This even though the Packers have had more than enough cap space to make a signing in free agency.
To make matters even worse, Green Bay does not have a first-round pick next month, as it dealt its first-rounders in 2026 and 2027 as part of the Micah Parsons trade.
The Packers' highest draft choice is at No. 52 in the second round, and you have to figure that cornerback will be (hopefully) their top priority at that spot.
Gordon McGuinness of Pro Football Focus does seem to think that Green Bay will roll with a corner in Round 2, predicting the Packers to select Indiana Hoosiers star D'Angelo Ponds in his most recent mock draft.
Ponds was brilliant this past season, racking up 61 tackles, four tackles for loss, a couple of interceptions (including a pick-six) and 11 passes defended.

But while Ponds was a terrific player in the NCAA ranks, he has one major flaw that could sabotage him in the pros: size.
Ponds stands just 5-foot-9 and weighs 182 pounds, meaning he will almost certainly have to play in the slot on the NFL level.
That doesn't really help Green Bay all that much right now, as the Packers need assistance on the outside more than anything else. Javon Bullard is perfectly fine in the nickel role.
Keisean Nixon and Carrington Valentine are Green Bay's two starting corners, and Ponds probably wouldn't be able to usurp either one of them. He's just too small.
The Packers absolutely should be aiming to select a cornerback at No. 52, but Ponds simply isn't the right choice for them.
McGuiness has fellow corners Keith Abney and Chris Johnson going a few picks after Ponds in his mock, but Abney and Johnson — both of whom stand six feet tall — would be better options for Green Bay.
