Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs has earned an injury update ahead of the 2026 season.
The Green Bay Packers enter the 2026 season with a running back room led by Josh Jacobs. However, the Packers don't have a ton of depth in the running back room, which is a concern with Jacobs' injury.
Head coach Matt LaFleur stated Jacobs will be out "at least this week."
Jacobs is dealing with a groin injury, and if it lingers into the regular season, it could be a problem for Green Bay. The Packers don't have a ton of depth behind Jacobs with MarShawn Lloyd, Chris Brooks, and Pierre Strong Jr.
Green Bay selected Lloyd in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft, but he has only appeared in one game in his career due to injuries. While he could be impactful on the field, the Packers should be concerned about his health.
USA TODAY Network via Reuters ConnectBrooks contributes to Green Bay's offense as a strong pass blocker at running back. The Packers bring him in on passing downs to give Jordan Love more time in the pocket, but Brooks doesn't do much in the run game, as he rushed for 106 yards on 27 carries in 2025.
Strong also doesn't bring a ton of experience, as he hasn't had a rushing attempt in an NFL game since the 2024 season with the Cleveland Browns, where he had 26 carries for 108 yards.
Jacobs is the clear-cut leader in the running back room for the Packers, as he rushed for 929 yards and 13 touchdowns while hauling in 36 receptions for 282 yards and a touchdown.
The 28-year-old running back is a key piece for Green Bay's offense, and if he misses time, they will have to lean heavily on the passing attack.
Love is coming off a great season as he completed 66.3 percent of his passes for 3,381 yards, 23 touchdowns, and six interceptions. The 27-year-old was an efficient quarterback and thrived when LaFleur was aggressive as a play caller.
The Packers have a talented roster and are in their Super Bowl window, but if Jacobs misses time, it will be difficult to establish the run game.
