The Green Bay Packers have received some tough news regarding a potential blockbuster trade.

The Green Bay Packers have been largely quiet this offseason, much to the chagrin of a fanbase that wanted to see the team get more aggressive following a gut-wrenching playoff loss to the Chicago Bears.

The Packers were mostly inactive in free agency, which is largely due to the fact that they are playing the compensatory pick game. Another problem is that Green Bay is lacking first-round picks the next two years because of the Micah Parsons trade.

However, when the Packers made the Parsons deal, they clearly indicated they are in win-now mode, so you can't blame fans for wanting them to acquire another star.

Could New York Giants defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence be that guy?

Lawrence recently requested a trade from the Giants, and Green Bay has been tabbed as a potential destination for the three-time Pro Bowler.

However, one general manager told NFL insider Jason La Canfora that he thinks Lawrence will ultimately stay put.

“I don’t think (general manager) Joe Schoen will trade him,” the GM said. "I don’t think [John] Harbaugh wants to trade him, either. Look what happened to his defense last year when (top defensive tackle Nnamdi) Madubuike went down. … He wants to build a bully up front. Trading Lawrence for a couple of Day 2 picks?”

Lawrence logged 31 tackles, a half of a sack and eight quarterback hits in a down year this past season, so it seems relatively unlikely that any team would be willing to surrender a first-round pick for him at this point. Especially considering his contract situation, which sit he reason he asked to be dealt to begin with.

That wouldn't necessarily affect the Packers, as they don't have a first-rounder to trade this year ... or next year. But would the Giants actually sell so low on Lawrence? It just doesn't seem all that likely.

Plus, knowing how conservative Brian Gutekunst typically is, can you actually picture him further depleting his draft stash for a 28-year-old who may be declining? It just doesn't seem like a very Packers-esque move.

Green Bay might check in on Lawrence just to see the price, but it's difficult to envision a trade actually being consummated between the Packers and the Giants.
