Green Bay Packers wide receiver Bo Melton has been released by the team.

The Green Bay Packers are releasing wide receiver Bo Melton ahead of the 2026 season. However, Melton will remain on the practice squad, be elevated to the 53-man roster, and play in Week 1 against the Minnesota Vikings. It was a roster management move by the Packers, but its purpose is still unknown.

Green Bay selected Melton in the seventh round of the 2022 NFL Draft, and he has spent his entire career with the franchise.

In 38 career games, Melton had 28 receptions for 416 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for 110 yards on 16 carries. He has been effective when given opportunities on the field.

The 27-year-old was a solid contributor at wide receiver for the Packers before they moved him to cornerback briefly in the 2025 season. Melton has returned to the receiver position and could be a solid depth receiver alongside J. Michael Sturdivant and Skyy Moore.

Green Bay will lean on Christian Watson, Matthew Golden, Jayden Reed, and Tucker Kraft, but behind them, Melton, Michael Sturdivant, and Moore could factor in as pass catchers.

Michael Sturdivant played four years in college and had a solid career, hauling in 150 receptions for 2,073 yards and 16 touchdowns. The Packers signed him as an undrafted free agent, and he had an impressive preseason.

Moore could also be a solid weapon for Green Bay, as he had 48 receptions for 581 yards and a touchdown in four years in the league. He has shown flashes of being a quality player during his career.

The Packers have some solid weapons, which should help Jordan Love as he could have an MVP-caliber season. Love had an efficient season in 2025, completing 66.3 percent of his passes for 3,381 yards, 23 touchdowns, and six interceptions.

Green Bay will lean heavily on Love and the passing attack as the run game is a question mark going into Week 1.

The Packers have a strong roster and will be looking to compete for a Super Bowl this season, and keeping Melton on the roster will help with their depth at the receiver position.
