The Green Bay Packers have added another weapon, signing a former Pro Bowl tight end to a one-year deal.
The Green Bay Packers are adding another weapon for Jordan Love and the offense as they are signing former Pro Bowl tight end Jonnu Smith to a one-year deal.
Smith is a quality addition for Green Bay as their second tight end, Luke Musgrave, is currently out with a neck injury. Their star tight end, Tucker Kraft, is also coming off a torn ACL, which makes adding more depth at the position a wise move by the front office.
Smith spent the 2025 season with the Pittsburgh Steelers, finishing with 38 receptions for 222 yards and two touchdowns.
While these numbers aren't impressive, Smith was a Pro Bowler just one year prior. In the 2024 season with the Miami Dolphins, Smith hauled in 88 receptions for 884 yards and eight touchdowns.
The 31-year-old will be a quality second tight end behind Kraft. Kraft had established himself as one of the best tight ends in the league prior to his injury, as he had 32 receptions for 489 yards and six touchdowns through eight games in the 2025 season.
With Kraft returning and Smith joining the roster, Matt LaFleur and the offense can run some two-tight-end sets with confidence in the passing game despite Musgrave being out.
The Packers will lean heavily on their passing attack in the 2026 season as running back Josh Jacobs is dealing with an injury, and they don't have much depth behind him.
Brian Gutekunst and the front office have done a great job of surrounding Love with a ton of weapons, with Kraft, Smith, Christian Watson, Matthew Golden, and Jayden Reed.
Love is coming off a career year in 2025, as he completed 66.3 percent of his passes for 3,381 yards, 23 touchdowns, and six interceptions. He is an efficient passer, and with the weapons in place, he is poised to be even better in 2026 as he looks to lead Green Bay to the Super Bowl.
Although Smith may not put up the Pro Bowl numbers he did two years ago, he should be a solid weapon for the Packers' passing attack.
