The Green Bay Packers have signed quarterback Desmond Ridder to their practice squad as Jordan Love and Malik Willis remain banged up.
Love is still in concussion protocol after suffering a concussion back in Week 16 against the Chicago Bears. Willis has been limited in practice as he is dealing with a shoulder injury.
Ridder was drafted by the Atlanta Falcons in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft. He has appeared in 25 games in his career, starting in 18, and has completed 63.6 percent of his passes for 4,002 yards, 16 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions.
Ridder could potentially play in Week 18 for Green Bay. They have already clinched a playoff berth and are locked in to the No. 7 seed in the NFC.
The Packers take on the Minnesota Vikings in their Week 18 matchup, and they will look to build momentum heading into the postseason.
Green Bay has lost three straight, and going into the playoffs on a four-game losing streak would be a tough blow.
When Willis filled in as a backup against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 17, he completed 18 of 21 passes for 288 yards, one touchdown, and no interceptions. He also rushed for 60 yards and two touchdowns on nine carries.
Meanwhile, Love has played at a high level all season long, completing 66.3 percent of his passes for 3,381 yards, 23 touchdowns, and six interceptions.
Green Bay could start Love if he clears concussion protocol or Willis, giving him another chance to showcase his talent ahead of free agency if he is able to play through his shoulder injury.
However, if neither is able to go, the Packers could start Ridder, as he has more experience than Clayton Tune, who was the backup for Willis in Week 17.
This could also be an addition for Ridder, as Green Bay will be looking for a new backup quarterback for Love, as Willis is likely to leave in free agency for an opportunity to start somewhere.
If Ridder plays for the Packers and leads them to a win, he could make a strong impression and potentially earn a backup role behind Love.
