When the Green Bay Packers swung a trade for Micah Parsons and then handed him a four-year, $188 million contract extension back in August, they had to know there was going to be some fallout due to the financial ramifications.
We haven't seen it yet, but we could very well witness it during the coming offseason, and Logan Ulrich of NFL Trade Rumors thinks it could affect fellow Packers edge rusher Rashan Gary.
Ulrich included both Gary and offensive lineman Elgton Jenkins on a list of potential trade candidates after the campaign concludes, and it's hard not to see where he is coming from.
"Gary's situation is fascinating because on paper he's doing well as a complement to Parsons with 7.5 sacks in 12 games," Ulrich wrote. "However, his down to down impact on the field has been far more inconsistent, especially factoring in how much attention Parsons commands from opposing blocking schemes."
Gary has also logged 39 tackles and 15 quarterback hits to go along with his sack total, but he owns a rather subpar 60.9 pass-rushing grade at Pro Football Focus.

Green Bay could find the idea of getting younger, cheaper and more dynamic at edge appealing, which could lead to trading Gary."
Gary was originally selected by the Packers with the 12th overall pick of the 2019 NFL Draft. He has yet to post a double-digit sack campaign, with his high-water mark coming in 2021 when he racked up 9.5 sacks as well as 28 quarterback hits.
The University of Michigan product made his first Pro Bowl last year after finishing with 47 tackles and 7.5 sacks, but he was actually far more deserving in 2021.
Gary has two years remaining on his contract, a four-year, $107 million pact he signed with Green Bay back in October 2023.
The Plainfield, N.J. native hasn't quite lived up to expectations in the tundra, although he has been a consistent producer who hasn't missed a game since 2022.
Meanwhile, the Packers are 8-3-1 this season and will face the Chicago Bears in an NFC North showdown this Sunday.
