The Green Bay Packers find themselves in an interesting spot as the 2026 NFL offseason slowly rolls out.
Randomly, and out of the blue, they've lost the services of special teams coordinator and assistant head coach Rich Bisaccia. He resigned earlier this week, and it sounds like a driving factor behind his decision is that he felt he let Matt LaFleur and the Packers down.
The Packers undoubtedly had their fair share of issues under Bissacia as the special teams coordinator, and most fans are likely ecstatic about the fact that he'll no longer be over the unit.
It can't be ignored that the timing of his decision puts the Packers in a bind, though.
Had he resigned at the end of the season, or even shortly after it came out that LaFleur was being extended, the Packers would have had their choice of the cream of the crop to replace him.
Unfortunately, the past few weeks have been full of assistant coaches changing allegiances as the landscape shifted due to the 10 head coaching vacancies this offseason saw.
A lot of smart football minds will be wearing different ballcaps in the fall. Had Bisaccia made this decision even two weeks earlier, the Pack may have had a chance to grab one of those.
But now, the Packers and LaFleur will have to try to find a diamond in the rough, and that's not going to be easy.
Whether they promote from within (please, no) or try to find an up-and-comer who is eager to prove himself, the Packers are absolutely going to be taking a risk with the new special teams coordinator.
Of course, a case can be made that anything is better than what Bisaccia has been giving the Packers for the next few seasons. They, whoever they are, always say you should be careful what you wish for, though.
