Despite Jordan Love’s elite production, stalled run games and league-leading drop rates haunt the Green Bay Packers.
The Green Bay Packers offense is far from perfect, but there are some silver linings as to what they've been doing in this 1-1 start.
Quarterback Jordan Love continues to play at an extremely high level, and it didn't take long for him to have a nearly 400-yard game this season.
Week 2 told a different story, but the team's EPA per pass play was far superior than to what that number said on the ground.
For as good as Love has been, this receiving core still isn't living up to the hype. Now that Jayden Reed is injured, things get even more dicey moving forward.
Finally, third down conversions have always been a major issue under head coach Matt LaFleur, and that's no different this season.
Packers are dead last in third down conversions
Through the first two games, Green Bay has only converted 19.1% of their third down attempts. LaFleur spoke about this to the media, telling ESPN's Rob Demovsky "it's disgusting."
LaFleur added, "It's almost third-and-10 every time," and that should be a wake up call to no one other than himself as he's the one calling the plays.
No one ever said he was a perfect play caller, far from it, but deep down there is an offensive genius mindset inside LaFleur. Whether or not we'll see that again this season remains to be seen.
Packers run-game hasn't been working
There are two glaring issues with the run-game: offensive line struggles and no Josh Jacobs.
This team can't tread water until Jacobs returns. They have a trio of solid running backs who simply aren't doing enough, and that was shown with their -0.59 EPA per play on runs against the New York Jets.
When comparing that to their +0.25 EPA per play on passes, that's a vast difference. Establishing the run-game is one thing, but you can't force it if it's not there.
Drops are a re-occurring issue
Once again, the Packers lead the league in drops. This used to be a massive problem when all of these receivers were still settling into the league, but now the only case to be made there is with Matthew Golden.
Golden has emerged as a fantastic target for Love, and there's always the reliable Christian Watson around.
Through two games, wide receivers have dropped seven of Love's passes. That's two more than the next closest players which is a list that features old friend Aaron Rodgers along with Baker Mayfield and Patrick Mahomes.
