The Carolina Panthers are hosting the Dallas Cowboys at Bank of America Stadium and Panthers Roundtable is here to provide updates and discuss the game with you.
PRE-GAME:
- (12:51 p.m.) Turk Wharton was a game-time decision on the Panthers defensive line. He is inactive, though. Meanwhile, many of Dallas' questionable players — namely corners Trevon Diggs and Daron Bland — are active.
- (12:53 p.m.) For the first time this year, the Panthers will be wearing blue jerseys and blue pants (along with black helmets).
- (12:54 p.m.) As the crowd fills out, more than half of the stands are wearing Dallas gear. Kickoff weather conditions are 66 degrees and cloudy.
- (1:02 p.m.) The Panthers win the coin toss and elect to kick.
FIRST QUARTER:
- (1:06 p.m) Panthers force the three-and-out on Dallas' first drive. Hunter Renfrow receives the punt for Carolina.
- (1:11 p.m.) Carolina advances to the Dallas 13 yard line before facing its first third down. On third and two, DeeJay Dallas is stone walled. Panthers settle for a chip-shot field goal to take a 3-0 lead.
- (1:21 p.m.) A couple big chunks of yardage from George Pickens, including hurdling a Panthers defender on a 31 yard catch, only leads to a 23 yard Cowboys field goal. All tied up, 3-3.
- (1:20 p.m.) As some rain starts to come down at Bank of America Stadium, a pass intended for Tetairoa McMillan slips out of his hands resulting in a Cowboys interception. Donovan Wilson brings it back 21 yards to the Carolina 25.
SECOND QUARTER:
- (1:37 p.m.) To open the quarter on fourth and one, Dak Prescott finds Hunter Luepke for a three yard touchdown pass. Extra point is good. Dallas takes it's first lead of the game, 10-3.
- (1:44 p.m.) Tetairoa McMillan gets into the end zone for the first time as a Panther. Beautiful ball from Bryce Young for the 19 yard touchdown. All tied up at 10-10 with 11:24 to go win the first half.
- (2:02 p.m.) The Dallas Cowboys converted on two medium-length third downs — including a late, flimsy DPI call on Jaycee Horn to advance into field-goal range. Then, on fourth down and five, George Pickens shook free of Mike Jackson to convert. This set up Prescott's 19-yard touchdown pass to Jake Ferguson.
- (2:23 p.m.) In a bizarre sequence, Xavier Legette attempted to lateral a ball towards Rico Dowdle. That didn't go according to plan — as the ball was fumbled. Carolina does succeed in recovering the loose football and boot through a 55-yard field goal. Dallas enters halftime with a 17-13 lead in Charlotte.
(HALFTIME THOUGHTS -- The Panthers have the game's lone turnover — Tetairoa McMillan failed to haul in Bryce Young's on-target throw and the ball ricocheted to a Dallas defender — and that's been the difference so far. The Cowboys cashed in the giveaway for a short-field touchdown and currently lead by four at the break. Right before halftime, Carolina nearly cost itself three more points when Xavier Legette carelessly tossed a lateral towards Rico Dowdle. The Panthers were fortunate to recover and kick a late field goal. As Dave Canales would say, "It's all about the ball."
THIRD QUARTER:
- (2:42 p.m) Within the first two minutes of the half, Rico Dowdle strikes against his former team getting into the end zone on a 36 yard touchdown pass from Bryce Young. Panthers retake the lead, 20-17.
- (2:59 p.m.) Panthers getting too cute with the play-calling. Rico Dowdle carried the ball for 16 yards on three rushes, but then Carolina takes a sack on a play-action pass on first down. This was the first sack by either team today and it put the Panthers behind the chains and led to a punt.
- (3:10 p.m.) Dak hits George Pickens for a 34 yard touchdown up the middle of the field. Pickens has now found the end zone in five straight games. Cowboys reclaim the lead, 24-20, with 2:38 to go in the third quarter.
FOURTH QUARTER:
- (3:22 p.m.) Bryce Young hits Tetairoa McMillan for his second touchdown of the day and of his Panthers career. This one for two yards. Panthers retake the lead, 27-24, with 12:20 left on the clock.
- (3:28 p.m.) Massive gain from George Pickens as Mike Jackson gets burned, yet again. Pickens stiff arms the defender as he goes out of bounds to complete a 45 yard game to get Dallas to the Carolina 20.
- (3:31 p.m.) Dak Prescott recovers a fumbled snap in the red zone on first and goal.
- (3:34 p.m.) Cowboys tie the game 27-27 with a 28 yard field goal from Brandon Aubrey.
- (3:58 p.m.) Ryan Fitzgerald cans a 31 yard field goal as time expires to give the Panthers a 30-27 win. They’re now 3-0 at home and .500 for the first time since the Panthers’ Week 10 win in Arizona in 2021 when Cam Newton made his debur back with the Carolina.
