Quarterback Bryce Young addresses the slow starts the Carolina Panthers have had in training camp and preseason
The Carolina Panthers are looking to improve on last season's finish, winning the NFC South and reaching the playoffs. While their season ended early in the postseason, there's a lot to build on.
There are also some big question marks as the Panthers are one of the teams that is being doubted the most. One of those questions surrounds the offense in general and if they can be better this season.
So far in training camp, there have been some positive reports about how the offense is looking. But the one thing that seems to be consistent is the slow starts. The Panthers got off to a slow start on Saturday against the Buffalo Bills, and it looks like it's continued into the joint practice with Jacksonville on Wednesday.
While the Panthers weren't awful on offense the entire practice, they got off to a sloppy and slow start.
After practice, Bryce Young addressed the slow start for the offense and what happened after that.
"I think we settled in," Young told reporters. "Newer group, we have some moving pieces. I think that's something that we wanna make sure we're proactive about. Every drive, every play is so meaningful throughout the course of the season. We don't want to leave any of those out there.
"Yeah, slow start. But super proud of how the guys settled in. I think that—for us—being able to refocus, know it's not the end of the world, but we have to have that sense of urgency."
While the Panthers offense got off to a slow start, they picked it up as practice went on and held their own. Carolina was able to start moving the football more on the Jaguars' defense, including hitting wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan for an impressive red-zone score in the second half of the workout.
The next test for the Panthers offense will be Friday when they face off against the Jaguars in the actual preseason game. They will look to avoid getting off to a slow start and hopefully that momentum can carry over as we are just a few weeks from the start of the season.
