The Carolina Panthers are reportedly signing a new quarterback following Haynes King's injury.

The Carolina Panthers are fresh off of opening up the 2026 NFL preseason against the Arizona Cardinals in Thursday night's Hall of Fame Game.

During that outing, the Panthers were pleasantly surprised with the play of rookie quarterback Haynes King. The rookie out of Georgia Tech made some plays throughout the game and began making a case for why he should make the roster after being an undrafted free agent.

Throughout the course of the game, King completed 21 of his 34 pass attempts for 180 yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions. He also ran the football three times for 39 yards and a score.

Unfortunately, King suffered a hamstring injury during the game. He is now considered "week-to-week" to get back on the field.

Following the injury news for King, Carolina moved quickly to sign a new quarterback.

According to a report from Panthers insider Mike Kaye of the Charlotte Observer, the team is expected to add former Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Kyle Trask.

"The Panthers are expected to add former Bucs QB Kyle Trask following Haynes King’s hamstring injury, per a league source," Kaye wrote.

"Trask worked under Dave Canales in Tampa Bay in 2023. He also worked out for the team last week. A corresponding move will be needed."

Trask was originally drafted by the Buccaneers with the No. 64 overall pick in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft. There were many who expected him to become a starter in Tampa Bay. Obviously, that didn't end up being the case.

He was with the Buccaneers from 2021-2025 and joined the Atlanta Falcons' practice squad in November of 2025. Now, he'll look to work his way into a role with the Panthers.

Throughout his NFL career to this point, Trask has played in just seven games. He has completed four of his 11 pass attempts for 28 yards, no touchdowns, and no interceptions.

More than likely, this move will simply fill a void until King is back and fully healthy. Carolina is clearly happy with what it has seen from the former Georgia Tech quarterback. However, Trask will have a chance to earn a role with the Panthers or at least audition for other teams.

Hopefully, King's recovery goes smoothly and quickly. He was impressive in his NFL preseason debut and fans are hoping to see more of him in Carolina.
