Carolina Panthers head coach Dave Canales didn't take any offense to some post-game comments from quarterback Caleb Williams.
The Carolina Panthers are getting ready to turn the page from their Week 1 loss and prepare for their first NFC South divisional game of the season as they take on the Atlanta Falcons in Week 2.
But before they do that, head coach Dave Canales met the media on Monday to discuss the loss to the Bears and how they can move forward.
During that press conference, Canales was asked about a moment that was caught on camera between him and Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams. After the game, cameras caught a moment between Canales and Williams in which the quarterback tells the head coach "Y'all are a great defense man."
Williams was being genuine and not throwing any shade at all. However, some made it out to be more than that and believed there was a possible troll from the quarterback after hte Bears hung 59 on the Panthers.
On Monday, Canales was asked about that but brushed it off and said he didn't take it as a dig at his team.
"To me, it was just a common post-game humility," he told reporters. "It was the same thing from my exchange with Ben Johnson. It's Caleb just talking about preparing for the guys that we had and all that, the type of defense that we were able to play down the stretch last season. He was aware of it. They took advantage of things, and they executed better than we did.
"So I didn't take that as a dig at all. I thought it was a good kid just being respectful and just kinda making a comment about just, 'Hey, we prepared and you guys played hard.' And he didn't have to say it, 'We played better today.'"
There's been criticism of defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero going into this season and the Week 1 performance didn't help the cause. Williams went 21 of 29 for 269 passing yards, two passing touchdowns and two rushing touchdowns. Chicago also added four rushing touchdowns total from D'Andre Swift and Kyle Monangai.
Overall, Chicago put up over 500 yards of total offense and it now has the Panthers wondering how they can fix this early on.
