The Carolina Panthers have some very obvious holes to fill this offseason, and one of them is at edge rusher.
The Panthers totaled just 30 sacks in 2025, which was even lower than their previous number the year prior when they finished with 32.
Once again, Carolina will need to address its pass rush in the weeks and months to come, and one enticing candidate has emerged for the Panthers in that department: two-time Pro Bowler Bradley Chubb.
The Miami Dolphins recently released Chubb, creating an opportunity for Carolina to potentially land him on a team-friendly contract.
However, Joe Person of The Athletic does not seem to think Chubb is a realistic target for the Panthers, even though general manager Dan Morgan sang his praises as the Scouting Combine earlier in the week.
"I wouldn’t read too much into Morgan’s comments about Chubb, the fifth pick in 2018 who turns 30 this summer and is just two years removed from ACL surgery," Person wrote. "Is Chubb a possibility for the Panthers? Sure. But the sense here is he’s not the top option."

When healthy, the North Carolina State product has proven to be a terrific player.
Chubb made the Pro Bowl right off the bat during his rookie campaign with the Denver Broncos when he racked up 60 tackles and 12 sacks. He earned another Pro Bowl selection in 2022 and posted 73 tackles, 11 sacks and six forced fumbles as recently as 2023.
However, the Marietta, Ga. native missed all of 2024 due to a torn ACL, and while he was certainly productive this past year, he didn't quite look like the same player pre-injury, so there are some reasonable concerns there.
The Panthers could always try to sign him on an incentive-laden contract, but it doesn't appear they plan on heading in that direction.
Plus, there is no guarantee that Chubb would even want to sign with Carolina.
It seems very likely that the Panthers will look to pick up an edge rusher in the early rounds of the NFL Draft this April. They also may look to sign a younger, more durable option in free agency.
