The Carolina Panthers have some big needs to address. But will they be big buyers?
The Carolina Panthers are now 3-4 on the season following a tough loss to the Green Bay Packers on Thursday Night Football. After getting to 3-2 with two wins, the Panthers have now lost two straight games and have some big questions to answer.
They could be out of first place in the NFC South after Week 8, depending on what the Atlanta Falcons do on Sunday. With the NFC South being weak once again, there's still an opportunity to make the playoffs and go on a run this season.
But with needs to be addressed, the Panthers are going to have to make some moves to get there. That includes at the NFL Trade Deadline.
With the November 10th deadline approaching, teams are starting to make moves as evident by the Indianapolis Colts and Tennessee Titans making trades this past week.
For the Panthers, they won't be sellers and there's no need too. Instead, they should be buyers but how big of buyers is the big question.
Bleacher Report's Brad Gagnon made predictions for each NFL team and what they will do at the NFL trade deadline. For the Panthers, he put it simple. The Panthers can't sell while thye are in first place BUT they don't want to buy big because it's still unlikely to put their team over the top in terms of an NFC contender. So what do they do? There are a few moves the Panthers could make that wouldn't really hurt their salary cap situation. The Panthers are ranked 31st in salary cap space, so there's not much wiggle room in terms of that area.
The Panthers have been hit with some big injuries that have impacted their offensive line, defensive line and secondary. They are going to get a couple of those guys back and while tackle is a need, the market is very scarce in terms of trade targets. In the secondary, they will get Jaycee Horn and Mike Jackson back.
But a spot like tight end, running back, ad safety could be something that intrigues the Panthers in terms of potential targets. Will they make a move to try and solidify themselves in the NFC South? Time will tell but the schedule does get harder for the Panthers moving forward and no matter what they do, they need to find a way to win some games.
Carolina returns to action in Week 9 as they host the Denver Broncos in Charlotte.
