The Carolina Panthers have been hit with injuries in training camp and now Dave Canales is providing the latest on a wide receiver.

Training camp rolls on for the Carolina Panthers as they prepare for their first preseason game of 2026 as they face off against the Arizona Cardinals on Thursday night.

With Carolina getting the Hall of Fame game, they will have an extra preseason game to evaluate players. This will be a good chance for Dave Canales and the staff to see what they have in terms of depth.

So far, the big story surrounding the Panthers in training camp has been the injuries. The Panthers have seen a few big injuries hit them both on offense and defense. As they prepare for the preseason slate, the Panthers hosted a practice on Tuesday and during that practice, wide receiver Xavier Legette went down.

Going into his third season, Legette is hoping to have a breakout year. But he suffered a hard fall during practice and had to be carted off. However, there is some good news regarding the injury.

Following practice, head coach Dave Canales provided a key update and said that Legette suffered a stinger.

"[He] went down really hard," Canales said. "Went in, evaluated him, cleared him of a concussion, but it looks like a stinger. We're going to evaluate him more over the next day or so and just make sure that he's in the right spot."

Canales said that Legette will have a window to recover as he's not going to play in Thursday's preseason opener against the Cardinals. That's important for not only Legette but the Panthers offense.

With Tetairoa McMillan having a big rookie season a year ago, the hope is that someone can break out opposite him. Bryce Young is also entering a big season in terms of his future so having a weapon will help him as well moving forward.

Carolina already lost rookie Chris Brazzell for the season early on in training camp. That leaves Legette and Jalen Coker as players who could compete for the role opposite of McMillan this season.

In 31 career games, Legette has 84 receptions for 860 yards and seven touchdowns spanning over two seasons so far in the NFL.
