The Carolina Panthers Erase a 17-Point Deficit To Stun the Miami Dolphins.

The first 20 minutes of the Panthers' home date with the Dolphins looked all too familar.

Carolina dug itself an early double-digit hole — just as it did against Jacksonville, Arizona and New England — due to a couple Bryce Young turnovers. However, unlike those prior three deficits, the Panthers rallied back and out-dueled the Dolphins in a fourth-quarter shootout, 27-24.

The game-winning, touchdown drive featured three stellar plays by rookies.

First, it was a fourth-down catch by Jimmy Horn Jr., who was making his NFL debut. Then, while Rico Dowdle was sidelined with an injury after amassing 201 rushing yards, running back Trevor Etienne scampered for 17 yards. And to cap off the drive, Bryce Young hit tight end Mitchell Evans for a touchdown.

The Panthers' defense, which forced punts on six of Miami's seven final possessions, sacked Tua Tagovailoa to stymie the ensuing series. Carolina had three sacks on the day, which is one more than it had in the first four games combined.

Young finished 19 of 30 with 198 yards passing and two touchdowns.

Miami raced out to its early lead with a field goal on its first series. Tagovailoa found Darren Waller for a 33-yard gain on third down to move the Dolphins into the red-zone. Carolina's defense ended the drive with Derrick Brown's first sack of the season.

It was looking as if the Panthers would hold serve until Young lost the handle of a ball when attempting to shake free of Bradley Chubb in the backfield. Chubb's recovery was quickly cashed into a touchdown on a methodical, 14-play drive. Tagovailoa hit running back De'Von Achane in the back corner of the end-zone for the score.

The bad start got worse when Young overthrew Xavier Legette on the second play of the ensuing series. Veteran safety Minkah Fitzpatrick came down with the interception and — once again — the Dolphins turned the turnover into points. This time, Tagovailoa fired a touchdown pass to Waller to stretch Miami's lead to 17-0.

After a smattering of boos, the Panthers' offense finally put a successful drive together.

On fourth down, in Miami territory, Young extended the play — while rolling out — and darted a conversion to Tetairoa McMillan. A few plays later, Young lobbed an end-zone fade out for Legette, who hauled in his first touchdown of the year to put Carolina on the scoreboard.

This is the moment of the game that the Panthers' defense clamped down on Miami's offense. The Dolphins would punt on its next five possessions and had just two first downs over that period.

Following Miami's first punt of the afternoon, which was caused by A'Shawn Robinson's third-down sack, the Panthers led a two-minute drill that ended with more points heading into the locker room. Ryan Fitzgerald's 35-yard field goal as time expired cut the Miami margin to 17-10.

Dowdle had the first of his two 40-plus-yard carries to open the second half, jetting 53 yards to set up Carolina's third-straight scoring drive. Fitzgerald's 49-yard field goal trimmed the once 17-point advantage to just four.

This score would remain the same until Dowdle cashed in a go-ahead touchdown with 6:10 left in the game, but the Dolphins responded right back with Waddle getting behind Mike Jackson for a long touchdown. This prompted Carolina's game-winning drive.

The Panthers will remain at home next weekend when the Dallas Cowboys visit Charlotte.
