Carolina Panthers Weapon Receives Blunt Trade Update cover image

This Carolina Panthers weapon has received a crystal clear trade update.

The Carolina Panthers will have some crucial decisions to make this offseason, some of which will involve deciding whether or not to trade certain players.

One name that has surfaced in trade speculation is wide receiver Xavier Legette, who has not lived up to expectations since being selected in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft.

After a rough rookie campaign in which Legette caught 49 passes for 497 yards and four touchdowns while struggling with drops, everyone was hoping that the University of South Carolina product would take a step forward in 2025.

Instead, Legette actually went backward, logging 35 catches for 363 yards and three scores while laboring with the same issues. In fact, Jalen Coker — who went undrafted in 2024 — has now surpassed Legette on the depth chart.

In spite of all of that, Panthers general manger Dan Morgan does not seem ready to give up on Legette just yet.

“We’re all so quick to judge these guys. And maybe they’re not developing as quick as the outside wants," Morgan said. "But I think you’ve got to be patient with these guys. I think you’ve got to let ’em develop, you’ve got to let ’em grow."

In other words, Legette isn't going anywhere.

To an extent, Morgan's comments are entirely understandable. Legette is only two seasons in, and it's not like he has had the benefit of consistent quarterback play, either. But you also have to wonder if Legette is just a bust.

The 24-year-old has had to register a single 100-yard game thus far in his NFL career, and he only posted five or more catches once in 2025.

Considering that Carolina is now a playoff team and clearly needs another weapon for Bryce Young, it stands to reason that the Panthers probably should be pursuing another receiver this offseason, as Legette simply isn't cutting it right now.

This upcoming draft class is actually very deep at the wide receiver position, so perhaps Carolina will draft another pass-catcher. Plus, the Panthers have some cap room to play with in free agency.

All in all, Legette has been markedly disappointing thus far. Hopefully, he can break out of it next season.
