The Panthers' season could be in some trouble.
The Carolina Panthers fell short again this past week, seeing their record fall to 3-4 on the season.
Carolina lost to the Green Bay Packers on the road in a game that could have been won by the team. With the loss, the Panthers now are facing a tough reality, and they have a brutal matchup this coming week.
The Panthers will host the Denver Broncos this week, giving Carolina a good test from an AFC opponent. Denver has one of the better defenses in the entire NFL, and the Panthers' offense could have some challenges to overcome.
Carolina's offense has faltered in each of the last two weeks, giving through to the Broncos being able to shut them down again. But the Panthers will have to figure something out if they want to avoid losing another game.
This will be the final game for the Panthers ahead of the NFL trade deadline, and a loss could change a lot for this team. Carolina will look to overcome the tough defense of the Broncos, trying to get back on track.
ESPN NFL analyst Ben Solak wondered if the Panthers would consider trading away running back Chuba Hubbard if the team were to lose this week to the Broncos. With the NFL trade deadline a week away, Carolina's front office will have to decide how to proceed the rest of the season.
Losing Hubbard would be tough, especially after how impactful he has been this season for the team. But there are multiple teams across the NFL landscape who need to add more help at the running back position, giving Carolina a chance to land premium assets.
If the Panthers were to fall to 3-5 on the season, it could have the team looking at trading some players. Even in a weaker NFC South, the Panthers may elect to build more for the future, rather than keep players on the roster.
Hubbard still has a few years remaining on his contract, meaning that the Panthers could charge extra to trade for his services. The veteran running back could help any team in the league, but it remains to be seen if the Panthers would even consider moving him.
So far this year, Hubbard has rushed for 540 yards with five touchdowns on the ground fro Carolina. Through the air, Hubbard has caught 22 passes for 150 yards and two scores, adding to his impact in games.
