Carolina Panthers quarterback Bryce Young impressed Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell with his performance on SNF.
The Carolina Panthers took down the Detroit Lions on Sunday Night Football in what became a thrilling contest between the teams.
The final score came in at 32-26, with the Panthers improving their record to 2-2 on the new season. Carolina's offense came to play in this game, with quarterback Bryce Young throwing for 329 yards and two touchdowns.
Young has been one of the better quarterbacks in the NFL through the first four weeks of the season, and he has helped this Panthers team look strong. Against the Lions, Young was able to take advantage of a poor Detroit secondary, pretty much getting whatever he wanted through the air.
The Panthers knew that they wanted to exploit the Lions defense, and they enacted their plan to perfection. But none of the performance from Young surprised anyone, especially Lions head coach Dan Campbell.
After the game, Campbell was very complimentary of the Panthers' signal-caller, giving him his flowers. Campbell said that Young's outing didn't shock him and that he was a dangerous quarterback in this league.
Young has looked much more comfortable this season, using both his legs and arm to take what the defenses are giving to him. But getting praise from an opposing head coach like this has to feel good for Young, especially with all the questions around his game entering the season.
Coming into the year, one of the bigger questions around this Panthers team involved Young and whether he could become the franchise quarterback that the team needed. And so far through the first four weeks, Young has answered the bell with flying colors.
For the year, Young has thrown for 1,268 yards with nine touchdowns and two interceptions. The Panthers have the strongest passing attack in the NFL, with Young leading the charge completely.
While the team is only 2-2, the offense hasn't been to blame, with the defense being the weak link. Carolina invested a lot of money defensively this offseason, and it hasn't worked out to plan just yet.
There were signs against the Lions, and in Week 2 against the Atlanta Falcons, but this will be an area to improve on. However, as long as the offense is clicking the way that it has been, Carolina has the tools to beat any team in any given week the rest of the way.
Next up for the Panthers is a matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles following a well deserved bye week.
