The Carolina Panthers have officially picked up the fifth-year option on starting quarterback Bryce Young's contract.
The next step? An extension.
Panthers GM Dan Morgan said during an interview this week with Adam Schein on Mad Dog Sports Radio that Young will get an extension "at the right time."
"In terms of long-term contract, that's something that we're talking about here internally and we'll do it at the right time," Morgan said. "Obviously, he came into a really rough situation in terms of coaching staff. Maybe you could say the talent around him wasn't great as well. So to come in as a rookie and come into a really tough situation where we had a coaching change, a lot of shuffling around the building, for coach Canales to come in here and provide stability, for him to be in the system now going on three years in a row, I think you see him just getting better and better every single year.
"Understanding the offense, he's such a good processor and just a guy that's a pleasure to have around the building every day. As you see him mature, you see him become a better leader every single year. The operation's getting faster every year. We really feel like the arrow is up with Bryce."
Young is set to make $12.1 million next season in the fourth year of his rookie deal. His fifth-year option is worth a guaranteed $25.9 million.
Young finished the 2025 season with 3,011 passing yards, 23 passing touchdowns, 11 interceptions, 216 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns. He led the Panthers to the playoffs for the first time since the 2017 campaign.
The Panthers lost to the Los Angeles Rams in the 2026 playoffs' wild-card round at home. Young played well in his playoff debut. The youngster had 264 passing yards, one passing touchdown and one rushing touchdown.
Young enters next season with 8,291 passing yards, 49 passing touchdowns, 30 interceptions, 718 rushing yards and eight rushing touchdowns in a Carolina uniform. He's 14-30-0 as a starter.
