Bryce Young and the Carolina Panthers were able to win the NFC South division title this season and get into the playoffs. While they were bounced by the Los Angeles Rams in the Wild Card round of the postseason, there is a lot to be excited about.
For many years now, the Panthers have been an afterthought in the NFC. That is no longer the case.
That being said, there are some major questions that still linger for Carolina. The biggest question is whether or not Young is a true franchise quarterback.
Can he be the guy to lead the Panthers back to the Super Bowl? Will he be able to live up to the hype that surrounded him when Carolina took him with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft?
While that question hasn't been answered just yet, Young showed signs of development throughout the 2025 NFL season.
Jake Delhomme, a former starting quarterback for the Panthers, took some time to speak out about Young and shared a relatively cryptic opinion of the young signal caller.
“Bryce, he’s very intelligent, and he sees the game extremely well. And I just think Bryce working with those guys, you saw him develop chemistry as the season went on, and there’s nothing like another offseason, another year in the system," Delhomme said in an interview with CasinoBeats.
"We’re so quick to want to ascend guys and then tear them down. It takes time, right? I was a huge fan of Sam Darnold when he was in Carolina with us. And look what he’s doing now. I just think sometimes it takes time, and we want to rush the judgment. And so I like the direction we’re going.”
Fans could take Delhomme's opinion in multiple different ways. However, he's hinting that Young is on the right track, but that it's too early for him to fully trust the 24-year-old quarterback.
During the 2025 NFL season, Young played in 16 regular season games for Carolina. He completed a career-high 63.6 percent of his pass attempts for 3,011 yards, 23 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions, while also running for 216 yards and two more scores.
Young still has work to do to prove that he can be the guy for the Panthers. Delhomme clearly likes the direction the team is headed, but whether or not he's a true franchise quarterback simply hasn't been answered yet.
