Carolina Panthers quarterback Bryce Young is facing the definition of a make-or-break season in 2026.

Entering the 2026 NFL season, the Carolina Panthers are expected to be a playoff contender in the NFC. A lot of those expectations and hopes will hinge on the arm of quarterback Bryce Young.

Since being drafted at No. 1 overall back in the 2023 NFL Draft, Young has shown flashes of franchise quarterback potential. Unfortunately, those flashes have yet to turn into consistency.

Young is facing the definition of a make-or-break season this year. If he isn't able to take a big step in the right direction, the Panthers could be forced to consider a change. On the other hand, a major leap forward would open up the possibility of a big contract extension for the 24-year-old signal caller.

Last season, Carolina saw Young have the best year of his young career. He played in 16 games, completing 63.6 percent of his pass attempts for 3,011 yards, 23 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions, while also running for 216 yards and two scores.

Those numbers give Young a good platform to build on.

Gone are the excuses of the Panthers not having enough weapons for Young. He will head into the 2026 season with Tetairoa McMillan, Jalen Coker, Xavier Legette, Chris Brazzell III, and Jimmy Horn Jr. at wide receiver.

Tommy Tremble and Ja'Tavion Sanders will man the tight end position.

In the backfield, the passing game will be supported by the ground attack of Chuba Hubbard and Jonathon Brooks.

All of the pieces have been put in place for Carolina to have a quality offense. The pressure is now on Young to make the most out of what he has been given.

Should Young struggle to begin the 2026 season, the Panthers may already start looking at potential replacements. Bleacher Report's Moe Moton has suggested that Carolina could be one of the pre-trade deadline destinations for San Francisco 49ers quarterback Mac Jones.

A window has officially opened for the Panthers to compete in the NFC. If the quarterback play is weighing them down, they won't hesitate to make a move.

It will be interesting to see whether or not Young can rise to the occasion. Carolina has had plenty of patience with him, but it's time for the young signal caller to either put up or shut up.
