Bryce Young's numbers looked good in the Carolina Panthers' loss to the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday. He threw for a career-high 328 yards, going 35-for-55 with three touchdowns and an interception in the 27-22 defeat.
However, Young got off to a nightmarish start in the affair, and at one point, the Panthers found themselves down 27-3. Based on how poorly Young played in Week 1, people could not help but wonder if Panthers head coach Dave Canales considered benching the former No. 1 overall pick like he did last year.
When asked after the game whether or not he weighed the possibility of replacing Young during the early onslaught, Canales provided a very curt answer.
"No," Canales told reporters.
Well, that settles that then, doesn't it?
But yeah; there was little to no chance Canales was benching Young in Week 2. Doing so absolutely would have destroyed his confidence and could have potentially dealt a fatal blow to his tenure in Carolina.
The Panthers have invested a lot into Young. They traded a ton to acquire the top pick to land him in 2023, and this past offseason, they spent quite a bit of time attempting to cultivate him giving him significantly more help.
Plus, Young showed some very encouraging signs during the second half against the Cardinals, bringing Carolina all the way back and actually putting the team in a position to win. In the end, though, the Panthers had already dug themselves too deep of a hole.
Young has thrown for 482 yards, four touchdowns and three picks while completing 58.9 percent of his passes thus far in 2025, good for a 74.4 passer rating. Those numbers definitely aren't pretty, but there is still plenty of time for Young to right himself.
Carolina also has several more very winnable games coming up on its schedule. It will host the Atlanta Falcons in its home opener next Sunday and then has matchups with the New England Patriots, Miami Dolphins, Dallas Cowboys and New York Jets on tap afterward.
Young and the Panthers certainly have an opportunity to do some damager over the next month and change.
