Is Cam Newton going to strike the "Keep Pounding" drum before the Carolina Panthers-Los Angeles Rams Wild Card game?
It looks like it.
Newton spent the first nine years of his NFL career with the Panthers. He made three Pro Bowls and one All-Pro and won the 2015 MVP Award.
However, Carolina parted ways with Newton after the 2019 season due to injuries. Newton played for the Patriots in 2020 and was a shell of himself, throwing eight touchdowns and 10 interceptions.
Newton appeared in eight games with the Panthers in 2021 after getting cut by the Patriots. He went 0-5 and threw four touchdowns and five interceptions. That was his last season in the NFL.
The Panthers made Super Bowl 50 behind Newton but lost to Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos, 24-10. Newton infamously didn't five on a fumble during that game.
Newton finished his NFL career with 32,382 passing yards, 194 passing touchdowns, 123 interceptions, 5,628 rushing yards and 75 rushing touchdowns. He is second in NFL history in rushing touchdowns by a QB.
"We can use all the help we can get. You talk about bringing juice, that momentum, that energy . . . When I think about Cam I think about aura. He's the biggest big person," Panthers head coach Dave Canales said. "It's not just by his height and size, but also the personality. If it happens, I think it's amazing. We can use any type of energy and enthusiasm. I know our fans at Bank of America Stadium will be fired up by that.''
According to ESPN, Newton's podcast is scheduled to be in Charlotte on Saturday. All signs point toward the Panthers legend being at Bank of America Stadium on Saturday.
"It'll be electric,'' Panthers Pro Bowl cornerback Jaycee Horn said on Wednesday of Newton potentially hitting the ceremonial drum. "That'll be something everybody will want to see. It'll mean a lot to this organization, a lot to this city. It'll be lit.''
