The Carolina Panthers and Kansas City Chiefs have been linked as potential trade partners before the 2026 NFL season.
Throughout the course of the 2026 NFL offseason, the Carolina Panthers have been a team constantly in the rumor mill. As the season continues to draw closer, wide receiver Xavier Legette has been a topic of trade rumors.
Legette was originally drafted by the Panthers with the No. 32 overall pick in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft. He was expected to develop into a long-term starter for the team.
During his rookie season back in 2024, he showed major signs of potential. Legette played in 16 games, catching 49 passes for 497 yards and four touchdowns. Unfortunately, his production fell off a bit in year two.
Last season with Carolina, the 25-year-old wide receiver played in 15 games and caught 35 passes for 363 yards and three scores. Those numbers obviously were not what the Panthers were hoping to see.
While the team seems likely to give Legette another chance in 2026, a trade remains a possibility.
Keeping that in mind, USA Today's Anthony Rizzuti has come up with four potential trade destinations for Legette if Carolina chooses to trade him. One of those teams was the Kansas City Chiefs.
Heading to the Chiefs would make a lot of sense for all parties if the Panthers choose to move on. Kansas City could use more wide receiver help and playing alongside of Patrick Mahomes could help Legette turn his early career struggles around.
Of course, there is no firm reason to believe that Carolina wants to move on from Legette. Outside of the media thinking that he could be a trade candidate, the Panthers might still view him as a valuable role player within their offense.
Currently, the wide receiver depth chart for Carolina has Legette being a key piece. The Panthers have Tetairoa McMillan as their clear-cut No. 1 option, with Jalen Coker and Legette being right behind him.
If Carolina was to trade Legette, the team would turn to names like Chris Brazzell II, Jimmy Horn Jr., and John Metchie III as options for the No. 3 wide receiver role.
No one knows what is going to happen with Legette leading up to the 2026 NFL season. He remains a name worth watching on the trade market, but the Panthers will more than likely hold onto him until at least the NFL trade deadline.
