The Carolina Panthers are being predicted to steal a playmaker from an NFC South rival in NFL free agency.

The Carolina Panthers were one of the most pleasant surprises in football this past season, winning the NFC South division title and actually pushing the Los Angeles Rams to the limit in the Wild Card Round of the playoffs.

The Panthers are now hoping to take the next step into becoming serious contenders, and in order to do that, they will need to have a near-flawless offseason.

One area in which Carolina could use some more assistance is finding more weapons for Bryce Young, and while wide receiver and tight end are viewed as positions of need for the squad, it may also want to find another running back.

Rico Dowdle seems like a sure-fire goner in free agency, and with Chuba Hubbard having struggled in 2025, it would benefit the Panthers to find a complementary player to support Hubbard in the backfield.

Well, Greg Auman of Fox Sports has identified a potential answer for Carolina, predicting the Panthers to sign former Tampa Bay Buccaneers halfback Rachaad White on the open market.

"The Bucs have lost enough offensive coordinators that he could follow any of them, from Dave Canales in Carolina to Liam Coen in Jacksonville and Josh Grizzard in Philadelphia," Auman wrote. "Anything over $5 million a year feels like too much — of 35 backs with 500-plus carries since 2022, he ranks 34th in yards/carry, ahead of only Kareem Hunt."

White rushed for 572 yards and four touchdowns on 4.3 yards per carry in 2025, also logging 40 catches for 218 yards.

The former third-round pick broke into the NFL with the Buccaneers in 2022 and had his most productive campaign in 2023 when he registered 990 yards and six scores as a rusher while hauling in 64 receptions for 549 yards and three touchdowns.

Over the course of his four-year career, White has reached the end zone 25 times both as a rusher and as a receiver, so he does bring some versatility to the table.

The 27-year-old is not exactly the most efficient running back in the world, owning a lifetime average of 3.9 yards per attempt, but again, he would only serve as a supplementary piece in Carolina. He would also be pretty affordable.
